Girls Night Out

Monday night my friend Lillian and I went into the city without the kids and left the hubbies home to babysit and we had such a great time!
We took Daniel on the train with us and then met Shannon (who was so nice to get off work a little early) in Grand Central Station to swap. He took Daniel back home on the train with him and they had a fun Daddy/Daniel night. This was Daniel's first train ride and he seemed to enjoy himself.

Daniel being cute on the train.

After we got in the city we took the subway over to Serendipity III for dinner. It was so much fun! We heard mixed reviews about it but we both really liked what we got and it's just a fun place to go.

Lillian and me at Serendipity.

Lillian enjoying the Frozen Hot Chocolate. Serendipity is famous for their Frozen Hot Chocolate so of course we had to get some! It was totally worth it. I have tried it at a couple of other places around the city but this was the best by far!

This is a picture of the Snapple Theater (or the Jerry Orbach Theater) where we saw The Fantasticks -which was so awesome! I didn't know anything about this musical but Lillian remembered it from High School and had suggested we go see it. (Such a good idea Lillian!) It was funny and sweet and the music was great -it was perfect. Come to find out The Fantasticks is the longest running musical in history and we got an extra treat because one of the guys that wrote it so many years ago - Tom Jones - who is now an old man - came back to play the part of "the old man" in his own musical after being away from acting since 1960! He was excellent. But I have to say that the entire cast was so, so, so good! I want to see it again! I think my favorite song was called "Try to Remember" but there were so many great ones. I could go on and on about it...but I wont.

Here we are in the lobby of the theater. The theater was really small and we were on the second row. It was neat to be so close to the actors!

After the show was over Lillian and I were taking pictures outside of the theater and guess who walks up?....El Gallo (Burke Moses) - who is the narrator and one of the lead characters in The Fantasticks! He was so awesome. He's been in a lot of stuff but he was actually the original Gaston in Broadway's Beauty and the Beast which I thought was so cool. Anyway, he was really nice and took pictures with both of us.
If you want to see more about the musical here's the website: http://www.thefantasticks.com/webpages/home.html This actor who played El Gallo is the one singing "Try to Remember" when the website comes up - so have your sound on.

Lillian and me: I kept saying... I feel like I should have 4 more bags and a stroller! It was really nice to go into the city with no extra stuff for once.

Night life.

Me enjoying the night out.

The city that never sleeps...

Our walk back to Grand Central Station took us near the Empire State building. It looked so cool that night.

Grand Central Station
We had quite the adventure coming home too. We caught the 11:22 train and we were supposed to get back at about 12:15 but not too long after we left the station our train stopped on the tracks and the conductor came on and said they were having "motion problems!" And yes - that's really what he said. They tried to fix the problem but in the end they couldn't fix it and they had to get another train to pull up next to us so we could all get on the other train. Needless to say we didn't get home until 2:00 a.m! But it was still so worth it!

That sounded like so much fun, Amanda! If you guys get a chance, try to make it to the Drowsy Chaperone at the Marriot Theatre. It was way cute. I love you guys, and hope you're doing well!
