Detling Family Day

We decided we wanted to start having a family holiday every year where we just spend the entire day together doing fun things. This year was our first one and it was a big success. Breakfast was great - whole wheat blueberry pancakes made by Shannon. He even made Daniel a "D" pancake. We took our picture by our family banner. It was a little soggy that day so we did a lot of indoor things but it was still great. We ended up played some ball, making sugar cube castles, racing toy cars, bowling, making cucumber boats, popping popcorn on the stove, and making homemade ice cream. It was so fun not having any distractions and just spending it together. Daniel can't wait for the next one. Next year I think I want to add a family service project and as the kids get older a family testimony meeting.

Making ice cream: The day before we all went to an orchard and picked peaches - so we made homemade peach ice cream and it was so good!

We had our family day the same day and Shannon and Nora's actual birthday's. That night we had cake and let Nora get dirty again. Poor Shannon had to use a fork to eat his cake. :)

Nora got much more into "eating" her cake this time around. Maybe she took pointers from Julius.

What a sweet tradition! I might have to file that one away to use in the future!
