The Barefoot Contessa

My sister and her family took a day trip out to the Hampton's while she was here and I am just kicking my self for not going! Kat and I love to cook and one of our absolute favorites is Ina Garten. We talk about her all the time. We make her recipes. We have her cook books. We always joke around with each other when we're talking about food and say "Who wouldn't like that," because Ina says it all the time. When we call eachother because we're faced with a cooking dilemma we say  "WWBCD?" (taking a quote from Gilmore Girls) meaning - What would the Barefoot Contessa do?

Kat kept saying she was going to go find Ina when they drove out there and lo and behold who did she run into while they were there....

Ina, Kat and Naomi
I was so jealous! I couldn't believe it! The next time I go to the Hampton's I'm going to look for Ina. Kat said she was so nice.

FAO Schwarz and Central Park

One day after Kat's husband got here we went into the city so her kids could see the big toy store.

Apple Picking

Kathryn and I took the kids apple picking. It was the last weekend for apples and everything was pretty picked over but still so much fun.

Julius's face is so funny.

Playing in the Sand

The weather was so great we were able to go to the beach a few times and play in the sand.

Trying to get a picture with the kids.

Julius doesn't live near water. He was so excited we couldn't keep his clothes on. The water was cold but they didn't seem to care.

More Family and Fun

I feel so lucky. My sister Kathryn and her family came to visit in November and stayed for Thanksgiving. It was fabulous! I just can't get enough of having family around. My dad also came up for Thanksgiving which made it even better.

Getting all the sillies out in the yard.

Nice. They're getting the hang of it.

Daniel and Julius

Lucy got to chill with Grandpa a lot.

He protected her from all of the little people running around.

Kale anyone? These two are so silly.

We discovered Naomi had the same jammies as Nora and Lucy.

School Feast

Daniel's school had a Thanksgiving feast before Thanksgiving. Some of the kids were native americans, and some were pilgrims.

His class

Manners

In November I taught a joy school class about manners. Perfect for right before Thanksgiving. It was really fun. We talked about every day manners - "please" and "thank you" and "excuse me" etc. and table manners- putting your napkin on your lap, using your fork, taking small bites, chewing with your mouth closed and saying “thank you."
I made a place mat for each of them that showed where their cup, plate, knife, fork and spoon went. Then they practiced setting their place at the table and using their manners during snack time. They were all so cute!

Halloween

Everyone kept telling us how great our new neighborhood is at Halloween and they were right. It was so much fun. Some friends came over to go trick or treating with us and it was great.
