Rodeo

One night we all went to the Nephi Rodeo. It was so much fun! We had been before but it's been a long time. I love the Nephi rodeo in particular b/c it's got that great small town feel and the gorgeous mountains right there. James had prepped us with all the rodeo lingo and rules. Daniel was amazed! He especially loved when the cowboys hats would get bucked off their heads. I cheered extra hard for a cowgirl named Amanda (good name) doing the barrel racing but my cheering didn't seem to help her much - poor girl. I know she'll make a comeback next year...

Jensen Symposium 2010

Our family reunion this year was in Provo, UT at my sister Kathryn's house. Our reunions are somewhat unconventional. "Jensen Symposium" as we call it involves some of the traditional fun activities for kids and adults but it also involves each adult (my sisters, our husbands, and my mom and dad) preparing a class for everyone else on the topic of our choice. The sky's the limit. It can be sharing about something we've been interested in and so learned more about during the year, it can be a specific skill we've learned, about a book we've read, a demonstration...anything really. Everyone gets creative and we get to learn and catch up with each other - which is really great. We do most of the "classes" in the evening after kids are in bed and the adults can relax and enjoy. I especially like it because as a mom of young kids - I don't often get to sit down for adult conversation or learn about such random but interesting things!

Heafed to the Fell: Herdwick Sheep on the High Fell Farms of the British Lake District

(This came out of the class she taught the previous year about Beatrix Potter. Beatrix we learned raised and loved these very unique Herdwick sheep that only live in the British Lake District. Very interesting. My mom felt so good when a few weeks ago when she came across the term Herdwick sheep in a magazine and knew everything about them b/c of Emily's class!)

Family Home Evening was fun with all of the kids together. After we all went out on the lawn for treats while the kids ran around and played.

Hiking the "Y"

I'm catching up - so this is the first of several Utah posts to come. We spent two weeks in Utah this summer playing and visiting family. One morning Daniel and Shannon and I hiked "Y" mountain in Provo. Daniel was a real trooper and it's such a great view from the top.
